With counter terrorism and national security strategies high on the global political agenda the Australian Federal Police (AFP) plays a key part in building a more secure future for Australians. The AFP has about 5,000 sworn and unsworn officers with approximately 800 of them covering the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) – the seat of the Australian Government - from four, 24-hour Police Stations and one further station covering 16 hours per day. ACT Communications handles some 360,000 phone calls per year with about 60,000 of these requiring a police patrol response.
The organisation’s priorities, are underpinned by a focus on strategy and investment. So when its home-grown case management computer system, which provided a basic dispatching function, needed replacing it decided that an updated dispatching functionality was first needed to effectively manage resources in the field. Intergraph’s technology fit the bill.
Intergraph already had a system operating in Victoria that AFP could reference and, importantly, Intergraph products offer additional functionality that provides the organisation with expansion options.
Coupled with a newly developed case management system, PROMIS, Intergraph’s I/Dispatcher and I/Netviewer solutions have produced an efficient resource management tool that offers efficient and effective communication for the AFP.
